LONG RANGE RIFLE CERTIFICATION

Anyone who wants to use the 1000 yard rifle range must first pass a skill assessment approved by the property owner or their representative.   The goal is safety for people and property.   The range officer's decision is final if any safety concerns occur.   The shooter must demonstrate basic understanding of shooting and proper equipment before qualifying.

Test Format :

  • Assessment will last up to 25 minutes
  • Each distance the shooter will fire five shots.
  • Accuracy will be measured using measure of angle (MOA) or Milliradian (Mil-Dot)

Accuracy Standard:

  • Shots 1-2 must land within about a 10 MOA area.
  • Shots 3-5 must land within about a 4 MOA area.

Safety Priority:

  • No shots can miss the backstop
  • High shots are not allowed at all
  • If unsure about elevation, shooters should start low
  • Wind adjustments may have some flexibility depending on conditions
  • If skill is only partial the shooter may be restricted to shorter distances
  • This course of fire is not a training lesson, or coaching session.

Final Assessment:

shooter must demonstrate consistent accuracy and keep all shots safely on the backstop before being allowed to shoot out to 1,000 yards.
